1940 Plymouth Businessman's Coupe

   

This is the coupe as it rolled off the delivery trailer in the driveway.

Drivetrain = none. See plans below.

Suspension = original. See plans below.

Electrical = original. See plans below.

     

Interior = original.

Paint & Body = looks original. The only current issues with paint and body are few. The trunk was tweaked a bit. It looked like someone tried to push the car and jumped over the bumper. There is some surface rust in the engine bay. There is no rust through in the car. And no panels need significant work.

Coupe Plan

The overall plan for the coupe is to hot rod it and bring it current while maintaining the originality of the car as a whole.

Drivetrain: We're dropping a 1970 Cadillac 472 c.i. motor backed with the tranny. The motor and tranny were running when pulled and are going back in with just a facelift and not a complete rebuild at the current time. The search is on for a suitable rear end right now.

Suspension: The coupe is getting a more modern front suspension, probably a early 70's volare/duster front end. It will sport power steering and disc brakes. It hasn't been decided if it will get air bags or standard shocks. Rear suspension will probably be coil overs though air bags are an option still being considered. Rear disc brakes are planned.

Electrical: We'll be upgrading the entire electrical system to 12v with totally new wiring throughout.

Interior: The plan for the interior is to use the existing guages, dash and other equipment if possible. It has been discussed to do the dash in hardwood as well as the trim. The seats will get updated covers but will remain in the original style as the structure is in great shape. The headliner and door panels will also be done. Updated sound and light system are planned.

Paint & Body: No significant body work will be done. She'll get a new color scheme, two-tone is planned though it's not been decided whether is will be midnight blue/camel or burgundy/camel combination.
